I was interviewed by the Belgian newspaper De Standaard about the many benefits of outdoor swimming. The freelance reporter, Maya Toebat, and I spoke at length about how I developed a passion for swimming in natural waters, later deepened during my research in Canada, the UK, and Norway. I highlighted how outdoor swimming boosts mental well-being, reduces stress, fosters social connections, and increases curiosity about aquatic ecosystems. I also spoke about the need for greater access to blue spaces, criticizing Belgium’s restrictive swimming rules and advocating for clearer policies and environmental awareness. Lastly, I advise caution, promoting safe practices and gradual acclimatization, especially in winter, to maximize the benefits of this transformative activity.
